Planning to Relocate? Ask Your Moving Company These Questions
Posted on Mar 22, 2022 by Top Movers Global
Uprooting your life to move to a new city is stressful enough without having to worry about your movers. Getting help from family and friends you trust would be great, but often not enough for a move of this magnitude. Your other option is to hire professional movers because you certainly cannot do it all yourself.
The challenge is in finding a reputable moving company that offers a reasonable price, can ensure that your belongings will be transported safely, and that their truck will arrive on the agreed upon date and time. Once you’ve read the reviews, gathered a number of quotes, and made up your mind on which company to hire, you need to ask them some questions before moving day.
Important Questions to Ask Your Professional Movers
1.Who at the company will be my main contact person throughout the move?
You are going to need the name and contact information of the person who will be coordinating your move. This way you can let them know if you need anything else from them that wasn’t discussed earlier or if there are any other changes. You will also need the driver’s name and phone number in case you need to speak to them directly. Also, get an afterhours phone number just in case something unexpected comes up after business hours or on the weekend.
2.Will there be any other charges that are not listed on the written estimate?
A reputable moving company will give you an itemized estimate of all charges in writing well before your move. It is up to you to thoroughly read and understand this document. Make sure you know everything that’s included and more importantly, what’s not. For example, your moving company may charge extra for an empty box pickup, and this may not be on your estimate. If there are one or more items listed on your estimate that you are not sure about, ask your customer support coordinator or relocation specialist to clarify things for you.
3.When will my belongings arrive at my new home?
It would be extremely inconvenient having to wait days or weeks for the moving truck to arrive with your belongings. Your moving company will likely give you a realistic date on which the truck will arrive. Typically, a delivery window is given ahead of time. But once everything is loaded onto the truck the driver should provide you with a more exact date. You should also ask how things will be handled if they encounter something unexpected along the way, which will cause them to be late.
Is there anything that cannot be shipped with your moving company?
For the most part, relocating your home means moving your furniture, personal possessions, clothing, and other household items. These should never be a problem. However, there are some items, such as flammable or explosive items, that cannot go on the moving truck. And there are other items that it may be wise to self-transport, such as cash, jewelry, collectibles, art, and other valuable items. Make sure and discuss with your moving company prior to moving day what cannot go on the truck.
